Calabria is a region in Southern Italy or more specifically the toe of the country’s boot on a map!
Being Italy, its safe to say the food is mouthwateringly delicious but for this region specifically, it’s their prized possession: Red Onions! Grown in Tropea, these onions have become famous for its vibrance in colour and the sweet flavour it produces. It’s no surprise then that these red onions can be found in almost every dish.
Calabria makes use of a lot of locally grown vegetables and along with red onions – eggplants, tomatoes and peppers can be found in most meals.
The cuisine itself is known to be one of Italy’s poorest but don’t be mistaken – although simple, it boasts some of the most flavoursome dishes around.
